Missions

At Vistoso Community Church, we are committed to mission outreach and we work through two types of mission efforts: Our mission commitments voted on by the congregation and special projects.

Mission Commitments

Vistoso Community Church distributes a good deal of our mission giving through the Southern Baptist Convention for two reasons: the convention has a strong commitment to missionary giving and it has an efficient mechanism for distribution of missionary gifts. For example, Southern Baptist missionaries are salaried so that they can focus on their missionary work and need spend no time in fund raising efforts. These are our mission obligations as follows:

Our Tithe. Each year VCC voluntarily apportions 11% of our budget for missions. The breakdown for that 11% is shown at right.

Designated missionaries. VCC has pledged to support the work of missionaries who are uniquely connected to our church. We send $100 per month to each of these four missionaries: Roberta Cencini who is conducting a far-reaching Bible lesson ministry from Verde Valley, AZ, Elizabeth Carmichael in Asia, Bryan Wilson serving with the flying mission in Zambia, and kTb ministries--the mission outreach of Ken and Thurleen Bain to the Tohono O'odham Indians at Hichiwan, AZ.

Special Offerings. Twice a year our members support special mission offerings: During the Easter season, we support the Annie Armstrong offering for North American missions. In December, we support the Lottie Moon offering for Foreign Missions.

Missionaries of the Month.
For the remaining nine months of the year, we designate a special missionary of the month. During the month, we ask our congregation to pray for that missionary and VCC provides $100 in appreciation for their work.

Special Projects

Boxes for Troops.
Beginning on Veterans Sunday, VCC took several special offerings to support our boxes for troops project. Six boxes were sent to troops before Christmas, and the church has the funds to send five or six boxes each month for the first half of 2011.
