Missions

At Vistoso Community Church, we are committed to mission outreach and we work through two types of mission efforts: Our mission commitments voted on by the congregation and special projects.

Mission Commitments

Vistoso Community Church distributes a good deal of our mission giving through the Southern Baptist Convention for two reasons: the convention has a strong commitment to missionary giving and it has an efficient mechanism for distribution of missionary gifts. For example, Southern Baptist missionaries are salaried so that they can focus on their missionary work and need spend no time in fund raising efforts. These are our mission obligations as follows:

Our Tithe. Each year VCC voluntarily apportions 11% of our budget for missions. The breakdown for that 11% is shown at right.

Designated missionaries. VCC has pledged to support the work of missionaries who are uniquely connected to our church. We send $100 per month to each of these four missionaries: David and Glenda Houchin, who are planting a church in Tucson; Roberta Cencini who is conducting a far-reaching Bible lesson ministry from Verde Valley, AZ; Amy Elliott (Elizabeth Carmichael) serving in the Mideast, and Bryan Wilson serving with the flying mission in Zambia.

Special Offerings. Twice a year our members support special mission offerings: During the Easter season, we support the Annie Armstrong offering for North American missions. In December, we support the Lottie Moon offering for Foreign Missions.

Missionaries of the Month.
For the remaining nine months of the year, we designate a special missionary of the month. During the month, we ask our congregation to pray for that missionary and VCC provides $100 in appreciation for their work.

Special Projects

In addition to our regular mission giving, Vistoso Community undertakes a number of special mission efforts during the year. These are examples of some of those special projects:

Christmas Boxes. In the fall of 2009, VCC collected goods, wrote personal letters, and purchased desert camouflage versions of the scriptures to fill boxes for our troops in harms way. Sixty six boxes were sent to contacts in various units in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Qatar.

Greer Chapel. Our members Bill and Dot Hutchison started the summer ministry in Greer, Arizona, and some of our members participate throughout the summer. The church also supports the ministry with gifts of equipment and supplies.
