What’s Happening in 2010: July

Two Fourth of July Commemorations

On Sunday, July 4, Vistoso Community Church honors country and the sacrifices that have ensured and sustained our freedom of religion with a special extended service beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Then at 2:00 p.m., we host the presentation of the Sun City Vistoso Fourth of July Celebration featuring the Sun City Singers.  When the concert was on the verge of being cancelled because of renovations in the Sun City auditorium, the church stepped in and offered its newly expanded sanctuary for the annual celebration.

Certificate of Occupancy Granted

After years of planning and more than a year in the building, our building and renovation projects are officially completed.  On June 23, Vistoso Community Church received the official and signed Occupancy Permit from Oro Valley.  This is the last step in a project that is an ongoing delight to all members and friends.  Every week there is something new to see and enjoy as the final decorating touches are added, including the new ramada for shade and comfortable furniture on the patio, the new green chairs for the choir and reupholstered chairs on either side of the communion table.

Fellowship Event

Our July special fellowship event is lunch at Tanque Verde Ranch, Thursday, July 22, beginning at noon.  Attendance requires a reservation, so sign up on the sheet in the foyer or call the church office to reserve your place at the ranch.

What’s Happening in 2010: June

New Summer Sermon and Study Series
Our Pastors are embarking on a new series of sermon and study topics for the summer entitled Elements of the Faith. Pastor Adams will interrupt his sermon series on the Book of Revelation for this dual sermon/study presentation of a range of subjects essential to the Christian life. Topics scheduled for June include The Word of God or the Bible, God, and Jesus.
The dual presentation format allows one of our Pastors to preach on the selected topic during our worship service at 9:30 a.m. and the other Pastor to lead a discussion with more depth and Biblical instruction during our Bible Study time at 11:10 a.m.

Cross of Crosses
When Florence Norris donated her collection of 400+ crosses to the church, there was much discussion on how to display them. Our cross of crosses is now temporarily displayed in the church foyer.

What’s Happening in 2010: May

May 9 is the Day of our First Service In our newly expanded sanctuary, the masking tape is coming off the cross because the painting is completed, the clutter is cleared, and we are moving the chairs back into the sanctuary for our first service in our newly-expanded sanctuary on Sunday, May 9. What a joyous day! Although there are still some furnishing issues to resolve. All the construction on both our beautiful new fellowship building and our remodeled sanctuary was completed almost on the anniversary of our ground breaking, which occurred on the first Sunday in May of 2009. The last Sunday in October we will have the official building dedication and celebration.

Memorial Service Sunday, May 30
Vistoso Community Church never forgets the sacrifices of our service men and women who have protected our freedom of worship. As is our tradition, we will have as special extended service in honor of Memorial Day on Sunday, May 30.

New Bible Study Series. For the first four Sundays in May, we will have a Bible series on Heaven during our 11:10 a.m. Sunday morning Bible Study time. The series study leader is Don Berg. Although Don and Arlene Berg have moved across Tucson to be near their children and grandchildren, they have retained their membership in Vistoso Community Church. We welcome Don, a regular Bible study instructor over the years, back for this four-week series in May.

What’s Happening in 2010: April

The congregation of Vistoso Community Church, by vote, has declared: Our mission is to be used by God to help the lost receive eternal life, and those with eternal life to grow in grace and knowledge. Our Associate Pastor Kevin Redig is planning a Bible Study for the remainder of the month of April that helps us touch base again with the first half of our mission statement by exploring some topics personal evangelism topics. For our Sunday morning bible studies through April, Kevin will lead a study entitled Evangelism the VCC Way. The study will cover a range of topics including the motivation to share our faith, some practical methods of sharing our faith, and how to deal with objections. All of these topics will be related to our specific church fellowship as we gather tools to carry out our mission. During our Wednesday evening Bible Studies, Kevin will continue his verse by verse study of the book of Galatians which is a true blessing to all attending the studies.

On Thursday, April 29, our HeartCall Ladies Bible Study has planned a special outing for all the ladies of the church—a trip to one of Tucson’s newest attractions The Mini-time Machine. This beautiful new museum houses a delightful collection of miniatures of all kinds including 275 miniature houses and room boxes and other collectibles.

In the Children’s room is the tree shown in the graphic above which has all sorts of peep holes containing animal miniatures. A highlight of the museum is the walk-over miniature railroad. Ladies who would like to participate in the outing are asked to sign-up on the reservation sheet in the foyer and meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. on the 29th.

What’s Happening in 2010: March

Construction Complete!
The big news for March is that construction is completed on our Fellowship addition and work has begun on the remodeling of our sanctuary building. The builder is working very hard to finish construction this month and then we will seek the necessary occupancy permits from Oro Valley.

During the sanctuary remodeling, all church activities have moved to the new building and members and friends are asked to avoid entering the construction zone. The church offices are now located at the entrance right off the parking lot (circled in red), so this is the best entrance to use during the week.

New Building Celebration: Friday, March 12
On Friday, March 12, beginning at 5:00 p.m., Vistoso Community Church is having a New Building Celebration, and you and your friends are invited. We will have a light buffet supper with some really good food and musical entertainment and we will celebrate our new fellowship hall, new kitchen, new offices, new conference room. Join the fun!.

What’s Happening in 2010: February

Pastor Dale and Geneie Adams attended the Pastors’ Conference in Jacksonville, FL, during the first week of February. Entitled Navigating Ministry in Uncharted Waters the conference, which is attended by more than 1500 pastors and ministry leaders, is a great time of learning and renewal for both Pastor and Geneie. Returning at the end of the first week in February, Pastor will be in the office on Friday morning and will preach for our Sunday service, February 7. Associate Pastor Kevin Redig preached in his absence.

Vistoso Church’s Valentine’s Day Fellowship Lunch
On Sunday, February 14, 65 members and friends in the Vistoso Church congregation have a special fellowship opportunity. We have reserved a private dining room at the Metropolitan Grill for a lunch that begins at 12:30 p.m. Those who would like to take part in this special fellowship opportunity are asked to sign up on the sheet in the church foyer or call the church office at 825-0652 to make your reservation.

Special Prayer Request
Our new fellowship and education building is in the final stages of construction, scheduled for completion during the week of February 8. All members and friends are asked to pray especially for the Town of Oro Valley to grant our occupancy permit so that we can move everything from our sanctuary building Into the new building to make way for our sanctuary renovation. While we hold services in our new building, our construction crew will take out the walls between the sanctuary, the offices, and the foyer to increase our worship seating capacity and reconfigure our sound and projection room. Pray for this construction project as well.
